heat from gearbox

My daughter and husband used my 96 terrano manual to tow their 1200 kg caravan to northumberland.they noticed a lot of heat through the tunnel around gear stick area making the car quite hot inside.i this normal they had no issues with gears and car never misses a bit hence it stays.oh will say gearbox from a 2.4 petrol, been on car 3 years.

Ratios on a petrol are a little different to a diesel, but nice to know they fit straight on, Rick
