:doh OK I want to remove the headlamps to get access to the hooters, 3 bolts each side AOK, BUT there is a pivot of some sort to the outside centre of the lamp body that I cannot figure out how to remove.
I have tried pulling toward the centre of the vehicle, general wiggling, no way

The master plan is to fix a pair of wind tones I took off my old Standard Vanguard in the 60's, they still work & will fit in front of the rad & behind the grill, but i cant get my fingers in to put the old bolts back in to hold the original hooters, the idea is to fix a rail from hooter to hooter & mount the wind tones on that:doh:doh

HELP:bow:bow:bow

In theory it just pulls out but in practice its very tight i broke a headlight trying to remove one need to get long screwdriver to try and remove it

Thanks:thumb2, I will dose it in WD 40 overnight hope that will lube it a bit.
Come in handy trying to figure that out, found the start of some serious rust where the front of the wheel arch meets the front of the body under the bonnet, same both sides, so it Waxol for me this weekend, pretty good for such an old motor, it is the first flaky paint I have found in the 6 months I have had it.

Could do with something not so hard as a screwdriver in contact with glass, you need to spread the load first over a larger area, eg a small piece of plywood under the edge of the screwdriver.

Or make a wooden wedge.

You put the screwdriver on the clip not the glass reason i broke mine is it took such a force to remove that the headlight launched itself into the body work.

I gave up, there will be another way to get to the bolts
Thanks for the hints anyway:bow

The retainer that causes the problem is a ball-ended pin which clips into a nylon socket set into the wing - you have to remove the radiator grille to provide enough room for the headlight to move towards the centre of the car.
To get mine out I saturated the pin/socket with spray 3in1 oil (WD40 tends to evaporate away), then, with a piece of rag between the wing and a large flat-bladed screwdriver, levered the light towards the centre, keeping my elbow against the light in case it did what happened to cncfabs. After a bit of pressure both lights popped out this way.

Hi, :thumb2

Thanks for that time I will try again Sunday, I have an old type tyre iron, that should help, I was levering the wrong bit:doh:doh

A tyre iron should do the job, make sure you push it in sufficiently to be clear of the glass, then push the tyre iron away from the centre of the car (hence the piece of rag, to prevent damage to the wing), that way the end of the tyre iron is doing the levering against the clip or the reflector.

Thanks, :thumb2 I will try on Sunday, I was planning on levering from the top see pic, finger is where I plan to put the tire iron, I can get it well down to near the clip, the grille is already off to get to the hooters

That may work, I did mine from the front so that I could get directly in front of the retainers, but there isn't much room, so maybe a tyre iron wouldn't fit in.
I had to remove mine to change them to LHD lights for Spain, but coincidentally when I go over again next month I will be removing them again - to fit a pair of windtone horns! (One of my originals has packed up, so I thought I may as well replace the pair - I had a look last month when I was over, and it didn't look as though there was much room for the larger windtone type, so I bought the smallest pair I could find - £4.50 from eBay! Tried them on a battery, they are LOUD!)

With the grille out there seems to be room I will take some pics, Sunday

wind tones

Hi, got longer bolts from Halfords 8mm 8.8m now I can get them in, mounted 1 wind tone to replace existing hooter & pump in centre see pics, I think I will mount wind tones alongside pump in final set up, I guess I will paint them at some stage, they have been laying around since mid 60's pump can be seen to the right of the hooter in pic

Thought they were called air horns, the windtones I remember were made by Lucas and were electro-magnetic, with a big dome on top about 5 "or 6" in diameter, that was why I didn't think there would be room for them (I had a pair of the Lucas jobbies on a 1956 Ford Zephyr Zodiac I had, also on a 1960 Ford Consul Lowline - they were seriously loud)

Hi, Could be I use the wrong they are nearly done, no room in the centre so they are staying where originals were, but I will be adding a relay
