Head light washers

I have head light washers on my Mk 1, they shower water everywhere, so do not use them, but last few days as I turn the ignition on they spray for a second then stop, trouble is the over spray hits the windscreen, anyone any idea why this could be happening, it will not be a stuck relay, I am scratching my head, Rick

sounds like a short, i fitted hl washers to my terrano, the wireing was all their, just not the parts, there's a relay behind the passenger side kick panel
