hi guys sorted my bleed nipple saga and now have another

the long and short of it is the brake pedal is hard from the very 1st application and they dont feel like they are stopping the truck at all !!

ive bleed the system through today with new fluid still hard pedal

it has abs and ive checked all the connections and the pedal is still hard.

also checked the vaccum hose and it seems fine sucking really well lol

no brake calipers are sticking on

could it be the poxy servo ?

easy test, engine off, pump brake 10 times, hold foot hard on pedal, start engine, pedal should go down indicating the servo is working, if not recheck the vacuum, first, if OK servo gone, Rick

Brake Servo

Brake servo failure is pretty rare I have only had one fail in 45 years of motoring and that was on a 1967 Cooper S. I took it apart and the small piston that operates the sevo diaphragm had rusted in its bore. I took it apart cleaned it with Brasso and a small bottle brush found a new seal from local car spares stockists and it worked fine.

Not sure if modern ones can be dismantled mine was a Lockheed unit seperate from the master cylinder.

.

hi guys thanks for the quick responses when i pump the brake pedal when the truck is off it goes hard then goes down a bit when ignition is switched on but then i take my foot off the pedal and its hard straight away again the pedal itself hardly depress's down.

.

sorry forgot to mention the pipe where it goes into the servo is very wobbly i think its only a push fit is this correct on my truck the pipe connector where it goes into the servo is white in colour not sure if you guys could see if your is the same ?

Sounds like you have vacuum but not making it quick enough, check for collapsed hoses and the pump itself on the alternator, Rick

,

stupid question how can i check the pump ?
when stationary the pedal is very hard and no different when driving
does this indicate that no vaccum is lost when moving ?

i took the pipe off where it joins at the bulk head before it goes behind the engine and it seems to be sucking hard ?

Brake Pedal Hard

Might be a daft quetion but have you recently replaced the brake pads and if you have are they genuine pads or an aftermarket fittment?

Some so called high performance brake pads are really hard until they are really warmed up. I like a soft brake pad so the pedal is much lighter to the touch. I always think genuine or OEM pads are best but my last set told a different story.

When I replaced my brake pads last year the Nissan Dealer supplied me with pads labelled up as a NIssan Part they were called PITWORK and were covered in Japanese text but they are not as soft as the old pads that were marked TRW but of unknown originas they were on the truck when purchased.

When I replace them next time I will try to obtain some softer pads even if they do wear out sooner.
