wish mine had one, the previous 2000my troll had a heat button which lifted
revs to about 1200, handy to help get things warmed without having to try
to balance revs on throttle pedal.

any ideas if easily retro fitted?

I use mine for rough decents as it provides more control than your right foot, that can jerk the throttle and could encourage loss of traction which would be more difficult to recover from, especially on steep icy areas.

Certainly at tick over in the cold, but you soon remember you have a bit extra throttle, when you use engine braking for say slowing down at traffic lights and roundabouts.
Again useful in slowing down in the snow, I rarely use the brakes and anticipate well ahead. I must be a pain to follow, as most drivers will rarely see my brake lights come on.

Rustic

They're great for getting the car defrosted in the morning if you're prone to leaving a car ticking over to get the worst off. The wife does that with her Octavia and all it achieves is to soften the frost. If I do it with the Terrano, I pull out the hand throttle and wake the neighbours :D It brings the truck up to temp quick and soon clears the screen and gets the inside nice and toasty.

If your veg oil is a bit thick of a morning, a little extra revs helps initially too.

I think Rustic has probably given the real reason for it being there though.

Not sure if it can be retro fitted as the TDi's are fly by wire, the older td's are good ol' cable throttles.
