well the saga of a cr@p handbrake goes on!
i took it to ats today for them to adjust it for me.
they done everything by the book, i stood there and watched over them like a hawk (rick will testafy that i am a proffesional at doing this), and yet the hand brake is about as good as a chocolate fire guard.
to date i have had the cables replaced, shoes replaced, wheel cylinders replaced, Adz very kindly had a go and it improved a tad but not as it should be.
i think i am going to just carry two bricks around with me in case i have to park on a hill lol

and whilst we where there i noticed two outer cv boots gone and the front anti roll bar links were shot.

looks like another monday next week wasted working on the car, i was gonna do the tappet and then go out and play, no play time for me i guess lol
 
1.Were the drums replaced
2.Were the shoes adjusted so that the drum just fits back on.
3.What I was taught years ago was sometimes if you fit new brake shoes(Especially on old drums) you may need to run the car with the handbrake" just on" to bed the shoe to the disc.

Try and run the motor with the handbrake on a little(just so you can feel a little resistance)say for a mile as you don't want things to get too hot.

I had a crap handbrake on my sprinter truck and this was the only way that I could get a half decent handbrake when I fitted new shoes to the rear.

Worth a try if all else fails

This seems good advice, but stop every now and again and check the temperature of the drums.

My handbrake is now excellent, it holds the Mav and a 2 tonne boat on a slipway, with just the handbrake. BUT it took a lot of effort to achieve this.

It relies on adjusting the "Auto adjusters" to the limit, with the handbrake adjustment backed off so the main cable is slack.

It is critical to adjust the auto adjusters several times, and apply brakes in between the adjustment to centralise the shoes. Only after these are adjusted, then take up the slack on the hand brake adjuster.
 
Just done the HB on my T2 Mk 1 as it failed the test, found that the cable had been adjusted all the way up so the handle was good but brake effort was poor, removed drums, ground off the wear lip/rust, slacked off the cable all the way, adjusted the so called auto adjusters (that do not) and slid drums back on applied the foot brake a couple of times and did it again, then adjusted the cable, result first class HB, have now got to do the other half's car cos she wants the same and I must admit whilst it works on her car it is not that good and the lever comes up a bit too far now, Rick
