is that a fair price, guess need a mag mount and aerial to go with it,

or could a use my existing mini stinger?

like the idea of mounting head away from main unit.

so how far could i expect to get on 10 or later 50 watts
mind gather can link into repeaters.

looking at a sheffield radio group to get foundation with.

your mini stinger is resonant on 27 mhz , not 144mhz or 440 mhz

My advice would be learn about radio and then buy a rig. Once licenced you can talk to other radio hams world-wide without radio or a big aerial. Join a club most do lesson for all grades of the licence.

This will provide a lot helpful information. You could start here. http://krystynahaywood.co.uk/sarc/
Its a nice rig at about £200, but it may not be the way you want to go when fully informed. David.

those handhelds are good for the price. The FT7900E is also a good radio for the car as the front head can be mounted away from the radio. I had it's younger brother the ft-7800 before I needed crossband repeater for raynet stuff, So I now have a ft-8800.

Eyup RBRT, if you're interested in Foundation drop me a PM as I'm running one starting 12th Nov followed by an Intermediate in the New Year.

FT7900 is a good radio. Don't forget that you'll need a seperation kit to remote mount the head, the genuine Yaesu ones are better quality. I've used a seperation kit for years for my FT8800.
The cheaper chinese handheld radios are good and cheap but be aware they'll transmit out of band and could cause a danger to other frequency users or get you into trouble.

You know I'll be here for you if you take your course at another club if you need info or help.

Jim
