:nenau Came to leave work yesterday and the bxxxxxx would,nt start again, lucky that I was on a bit of a hill so I tried to bump start, rolled it forward just a few yards, didn't bump but started when I turned the key, anyhow got me home OK. Parked up turned ignition off then on again. NOTHING. All lights come on and you hear a type of click but that's it, really starting to piss me off now, I've been having this problem on and off now for quite some time and I must admit I'm seriously thinking of scrapping it, so far I've had a new Bosh heavy duty battery a brand new starter motor and a new ignition switch, each time it seems to cure the problem then out of the blue it does it again. I still think its electrical maybe an earth somewhere but who knows I really thought the new ignition switch had solved the problem. I think I noticed a day or so before when I stared that the starter didn't seem to wang the engine over as normal so I'm wondering if there is something more terminal. any Ideas lads?

ok, have you checked the wiring? Check the positive lead to the starter-look for cracks, corrosion etc, and of course repeat with the negative lead. Check the earths also, I found my earth strap from drivers side inner wing to engien block corroded underneath where it had rubbed on the inner wing....

Simple started motor test is, when it does it again get someone to bang the started motor with a hammer. (Not too hard) It sound to me like the fault is there. Im guessing its sticking, this is why when you rolled forward it released it and then it started.

Iv had a few car this has happend to, if it is that, get a new one as its not going to be long before it dies.

Cheers Kamsin but it is a new starter motor, battery and ignition switch and I,ll be checking the wiring tomorrow clivvy.

Even new they can play up, however its not common.

Down side is it could be broken teeth on the fly wheel that is causing it to stick. Did all the contacts get cleaned up when re-fitting the starter.

Could it be the alarm playing up and putting the imobliser on

Starter very new at £196. The good news is really got in and checked earth wire from starter, one end corroded, give it a good scrub and presto back on road again. So once again thanx to all for their ideas and suggestions. :thumb2 :clap
