small sump.jpg after few weeks putting on hard setting paste still my sump had a leak it found its way through so my local garage said he would weld on a small plate , he gave the hard setting paste 1 tap with a screwdriver the lot fell off . he ground the sump cut small piece shaped it in the vice clamped it with molegrips did a seam weld all around as he normally services land rovers & said he,d done loads sump repairs & diffs this way . im chuffed to bits as not 1 drip has leaked since & he only wanted to charge me £40 for it so i gave him £50 for his time & trouble , i will be using that guy again when it comes to servicing:thumbs

SUMP

Brill repair for that price, mine was roten so could not repaar by welding roy :thumb2:D

Quite ironic really, plenty of oil in that area normally and the oil doesn't stop it rusting...:doh
When I keep my tin of waxoyl in the shed, it normally has rust spots on the outside of the can.

My daughter's fiesta's sump had a pin hole, I used some chemical metal on that.
I put that down to stone chips and lack of outside oil, as I kept the engine clean.:doh:doh

rotten sump

my truck used to belong to some one who works at a nucular site and they use road salt like its going out of fashion the sump had at least 3 places that with a little help with the tang of a file ended up as holes cost over £600 to do complete job but money well spent !!!!!!! but if it could have bin welded then i would have got that done roy:thumb2
