Well the Son got his first car in May & being a nice Dad I gave him an amp I had kicking about & a 12" JBL sub & fitted it all into his car whilst he was away on his holls:D well the other day he walked in with another amp & 2 more 12" JBL subs & then says i'm taking the back seat out & fitting all 3 subs in it's place:augie what he really ment by that was Daaaaaad can you build it all for me:doh Well today I ripped out the back seat to see what i've got to work with & i've got to build a false floor which will be bolted down to the floor for a 5.5ft3 enclosure to sit on/bolt down to then have to find somewhere to mount the 2 amps which might end up in an enclosure in the rear foot wells oh & a set of 6x9" have to go in the rear aswell i've been told. It's prob going to take 2.5 sheets of 4x8ft 18mm MDF:doh

That's what dads are for innit!

He buy's parts & I always end up having to fit them should start charging him:lol

Ooops post this in the wrong section:doh was ment for The Clubs Virtual Pub Mods feel free to move it:thumbs

Hope your son will be helping and learning out to do it.

So do I but i'm not holding my breath as he gets bored after 5 mins & go's & plays on the xbox:doh I'll take some pic's for you tomorrow Zippy:thumbs but got nothing done today as had to go to the doc's & take my mates dog to the vets & it's to cold & dark now but with any luck i'll get atleast 1 sheet of MDF tomorrow & can make a start on the false floor

Here you go Zippy:thumbs just hope the pic's don't come out huge:doh
Back seat removed

Managed to get 2 hours on the car today so got the new false floor cut out & in:D the rear is bolted down to 2 of the rear seat mounting points & wooden battens were screwed into the floor at the front where the rear seat clips in & the new floor is screwed down to these so it's not going anywhere:thumb2

Will be adding some supports in the middle under the floor to stop any flexing & some carpet to help keep down the road noise

The build has been rather slow due to Xmas etc but it's starting to get there now. After working out the space I had to work with I was able to design an enclosure with the correct volume.
The enclosure in the car without to top fitted, as you can see it takes up nearly all of the space the back seat did:lol

Pic of the enclosure out of the car with the top glued & screwed down & the subs/ports in place

Got side panels to build yet to house a set of 6x9" speakers either side of the enclosure & the amp rack, then it all has to come out again to be trimmed in carpet:augie

Are you adding any sound absorbing wadding, or does that type of design not need it?

It has been a long time since I built my first speakers...
The fully enclosed ones had wadding.

The fully enclosed ones had wadding.

Sealed enclosures often do have wadding as it also makes the speaker think it's in a slightly bigger enclosure. This one won't be having any wadding in as it's a ported enclosure tuned to 33-34Hz & there is a chance the wadding could be blown out of the ports or even block them

Well had a huge delay on this build as the Son ran out of funds, then the car needed fixing & then he was involved in a bump so everything had to come out incase the car was wrote off but it went 50/50 each to fix their own oh & he's been out in the car all of the time so didn't have it to make bits up:doh. Anyway getting closed to being finished at long last as I spent today running power & earth cables, phono cables & speaker wires aswell as trimming the amp rack & the 6x9" speaker mounts that are going to either side of the sub enclosure. Still feeling a bit floaty off the fumes from the glue:lol
Will put a few pic's up tomorrow night but for now here's the sub enclosure finished & trimmed up:thumb2

Blimey, when can I get mine done? :naughty

:lol I might in a couple of years once saved up the funds I might fit 2 15" subs in the back of my T2:naughty. I've no idea how loud the Son's system is going to be yet but fingers crossed i'll find out tomorrow but if any of the windows break it's not my fault for setting it up & testing it:sly

Video needed during test!

Second alternator needed too :lol

Second alternator needed too :lol

It may need a larger alternator & battery fitted or a twin battery set up but the boot is totally empty so there is plenty of room in there for a second battery:thumbs To video it i'll have to take it away from the house as people complained last time when I set up just 1 12" sub in the Son's car:augie

Well at long last it's in & working:D It could prob do with a few more tweaks to improve the sound a bit better but the Son is very happy with it. One thing it made my head hurt when I turned up the volume:lol:lol:lol

What did you say I'm a bit deaf ?

So what does your son do wear ear defenders whist driving so he can think whilst driving / head banging ?

Will you need to upgrade the alternator to cope with the amplifier supply ?

My younger brother blew up his Manta about 30 years ago - his music was so loud he did not hear his engine rattling until it was too late and a con rod came through the block .LOL

I know I am showing my age we have a neighbours son who is a base junky he arrives home in the early hours over the weekend and rattles my windows.

Thought we were having an earthquake !

Anything over 2.5 watts per channel should not be road legal if you are under 50 !!

Funny you should mention it he does have a pair of ear defenders in the car for passengers :lol:lol:lol & bigger alternator may be needed not sure at the min but for normal driving it's mainly only the centre sub playing as the other 2 are turned down or off via the stereo which also keep the current draw from the battery down:thumbs TBH outside of the car it isn't that loud which is a good thing but inside it hits hard as the subs are about 3ft behind you firing at your head:augie

looks a tidy job!
whats your output on the amps? bigger alternator is always a good idea. got any power caps?
just putting an amp in my navara at the mo as the 20watt speakers are crap. ive got some 80w rms 6x9 jbl in doors running off a 300w amp that is under the drivers seat. no room for anything else in a pickup!
