How do all.

I need to change the glow plugs soon. Any particular make that I should look at?

She's a 2.7.

Thank you :)

I've always vouched for NGK or Lucas, the main thing to take into consideration here is that you don't get the ceramic tipped ones!!!!! Over time they will disintegrate and can break off and drop into the head

I'd recommend Lucas LP032 Metal Rod plugs, aim to pay about £8 a plug :thumb2

NGK metal tips
Comparing metal tipped on the right to ceramic on the left.

Thank you guys :thumb2 :thumb2
I was swaying towards the Lucas ones that I've seen on fleaway.

Whom or what is FAI? :nenau

http://faiauto.com

We use them at work for gaskets and such prices are very good, They have had some stick though parts made in china and such but most of the gaskets etc.. Are normally elring, reinz, corteco just re-boxed. Ive had lucas glowplugs from them and front and rear arb droplinks which have been fine.

Thanks Luke. Saved to my favs :thumb2

I'm learning that there's two 2.7 variations........... TD & TDi, the TDi being the intercooled variant. So far am I right?

Seems there's also a variation to the glow plugs that are required for both engine variants. Am I right again?

Mine is intercooled. So I should ask do I need the LP032 plugs which (from what I've learned) seem to be for the TD variant.

What Lucas number would I require? I don't wanna buy the wrong ones off eBay & have to return them.

Thanks.

Oops I think I've given you the wrong number there   :doh

In that case I think the TDi ones are LP079 :nenau
Let me have a look

No worries mate

You sure yours are dead? Have you tested them?

No I haven't. Just going on what Clive told me. It appears I can only obtain 3 for now. I'll get her fired up, remove them & see what's what.
If I don't need them now, they'll come in later ;)

Whilst you are dealing with the glow plugs, you might as well re-locate the glow plug relay, with our vintage of motor Nissan in their infinite wisdom seemed to fit the relay in the recess between the wing. Even with the arch liners fitted, water still gets up in there and splashes around and will corrode the plug into the relay rendering them all useless with no 12v feed eventually.

One 10mm nut/screw to remove it, bend the bracket by hand and refit using the same hole but on the inside of the engine bay, lovely free fix that one :naughty

Use a multimeter to test the plugs at first, if you do remove them, make sure you clean the bus bar up and test the new plugs too whilst they are out by attaching a negative jump lead to the body of the plug, then touch the top of the plug on the thread with a positive jump lead, after a few seconds it should glow red

Oh and watch you don't lose those pesky tiny tiny washers!!!!!

yeah, I'd say it needs glow plugs.

I fitted them a while back, over a year but I cant remember how long exactly and its just slow starting - have to key on/off about three times and it starts first time. |Can hear the relay etc, but I never tested the plugs.

they were cheap glow plugs, so I'm 98% sure its them...

Thank you Banshee. I will relocate the relay whilst I'm in there.

It's not always known, but a good thing to practice is warm your engine through before removal of the old plugs. If done on a cold engine they can on occasion snap off to a whole world of hurt.

I just wanna thank all that helped with their suggestions :thumb2 :thumb2

Glow plugs changed this afternoon & with only one of the four working, very in need of a change.

If the weather's favourable tomorrow afternoon, I shall be relocating the relay.
