OK. As a surprise Christmas present I have bought the Mav a new Sony CD player with an aux port for the IPod ;)

Now to decide what cable adaptor I need I sneakly have to get the orginal Ford head unit out. How do I get it out?

I have tried a bent coat hanger in the holes on each side but it still does not want to budge.

Any suggestions?

Would this post of Sweetys be the one you are looking for?.

---------------------------------------------

If the mk3 is the same as the mk2 which I think it is, it's easy to get out
1st take out ash tray, there will be 2 screws reamove them , next there is an over hang above the heater controls, there are 2 screws under the over hang & above the controls reamove them & a slight pull & wiggle the hole air vent facia will come forward with the head unit attached.
Job done
Almost forgot the headunit is held to the facia by 4 screws on the back

--------------------------------------------
Have not given you the full link as the the post for the newer, Double facia, model.

Have a look and see,

Mav.

Hi LouLou  the whole job should only take you about 15 mins to replace the head unit  i've had mine out that many times now I think I will be able to do it with my eyes shut    Yours should be the same facia as mine as yours is a 97 but if you get stuck let me know & I can take some photos of the fixings etc & email them to you

Paul, you would be far better staying with a good brand like Yaesu

Like the FT2800 that's in the Jeep ? ;)

Next challenge when I can get hold of the Mav, so the other half doesn't know about it, is to find out what connector I will need to go from the Sony to the existing wiring. I guess Nissan?

Paul

You should be able to buy an adapter which is half Nissan and the other half Sony which should just plug in to the existing wiring harness.
If you have problems pulling the old unit out it might have security clips down the side, in that case you might have a look in your new units box and see if they have a set that fits it the old one.

You can get then from ebay or halfords  most aftermarket head units i've come across use the same type of plug on the head unit

Picked a wiring adaptor up from Halfrauds which was marked for the Maverick (surprisingly)! 8O

New head unit now in and working. GF doesn't know about it yet but she is off in an hour and will soon realise when she turns on the ignition

Cheers to all and a Merry Christmas

Something to play her new Euphoria trance compilation on. She loves the new ICE by the way

At least I'm not buying a set of all terrain tyres and a suspension lift kit. I did that for my previous wife one Christmas
