Getting Nervous

Having read and seen pictures of the rot in front cross members/wings/sills, I am getting really nervous

I can't weld so would be stumped if that type of work is needed. Fingers crossed that the £500 Y plate Terrano goes through the MOT. It has been standing for the best part of a year. On the up side, I'm not paying for the MOT or the motor if it crashes and burns... :naughty

Yeah I did a thorough wash underneath, let it dry in warm weather for about a week, then applied a good amount of hammerite and underseal to arches and sills and more, rear diff ect :thumb2

Well worth it

Prevention is better than cure, oh, I did wire wool brush off any rust first though.

I've owned a Disco 2 yes their better than the earlier ones for rot but they still rust like mad:doh no more crappy LR's for me

Anyone used 3M Car Body Schutz? I used to use it when I was in the motor trade. I've got a compressor so it's just a case of jacking up the Terrano. What rating jack and axle stands will I need, I assume my normal car stuff won't do?

Dam good stuff is that, it'll be prefix I'm sure and sprayed on it'll get into all the nooks and crannys.

Pressure or hose wash all the mud, then wire brush as much as you can. If you did find some rust spots treat using one of the rust remedies out there before may be priming and shutzing.

trolley jacks are poorly rated, for instance the 2 tonne jobbies from the likes of Lydl struggle to lift the rear end of a T2 yet the whole car is only 1.8 tonnes, but I have one in both our road going motors cos they are far more stable than the Nissan offering for a wheel change, and as said jack it up but if going under axle stands are a must, Rick

Very good advice, I use Bilt Hamber products and am very impressed with it.

My old Sealey jack was rated at 1.25 ton and it used to lift my T2 and also my old Series LR's, you only lift part of the vehicle after all.
I now have a 3.25 ton Sealey, use axle stands or ramps, I also have large lumps of wood which I drive the truck onto when I do oil changes.

Dam auto correct still catches me out, "prefix" should of been "perfect" god knows how auto correct comes up with alternatives :doh
