Hi as soon as I hit hills the starts to climb only goes to temperature three quarters and after a while cools down to about a quarter, this is new as the temperature does not really move.

I am also loosing water but cannot find where from, oil is clean and no mayonnaise around the oil filler cap or dipstick.

I suspect water pump?

Anybody else had this?

Thanks in advance

Paulp

could be water pump or seal - leaks usually dry up so quick with the engine getting so hot that its hard to locate - I suspect its leaking when the engine is put under higher pressure (i.e. going up hill).

you sure the thermostat is ok?

That interesting as im having some of the same problems as you however im not loosing coolant.Ive change my water pump though so that may of helpped out the coolant loss issue but still shoots up when going up hill, despite triple checking for air lock so will be watching this post with interest

most likely your viscous fan, does it roar when starting for a few minutes? Rick

+1 check your viscous unit. I had this problem when towing uphill but was fine the rest of the time and turned out my viscous unit was pooped

problem is that it may roar on startup for a while but this does not mean that the bi metallic coil is able to turn the spindle in the ctr of the fan to bring the fan on when hot, they tend to seize, so when needed they do not work, Rick

when mine was loosing coolant i couldnt see for love or money where it was coming from but bit the bullet and replaced the pump, and it was not till i got it off that i could see the gasket was gone at the very bottom of it so thats where my leak was coming from but the bearing where going in the pump as well i found out at the time so for me it was a good call in doing it and didnt take long to do
