do you know if these pmr sets work on cb, or if can get really compact hand held
cb even if short range.

pmr will not work on cb frequencies ... Cb is 27 megs ... Pmr is 446 megs .... However some ham radio sets will be able to operate on pmr frequencies even though they have ctcs

fair enough,

had a little browse on ebay

found som neat looking handhelds like midland 42
and intek h512/520 models, look like a chunky
mobile nt much bigger than pmr types.

hmm, at £100 or so question is get one to pair
with cb in car, or set of pmrs for less

decisions decisions .... Pmr generally has a shorter range than cb , although there are some pmr sets that have ( allegedly ) a 10 km range , typically it will be more like a mile tops

Have a look at the chineese handheld radios. Perfect for the user of pmr446 who wants more power.

They are great value for money. They are also soon brining out mobile radios that will have the required 6.25k step and will be able to do pmr446. :lol
