that's the same as mine, since i put gl4 gear oil in, the crunch has strangly gone, also if you let the gearbox spin down before selecting reverse, that can help 'put your foot on clutch, wait a few seconds before selecting revere'
Clutch down, select fourth to stop the gearbox, then select reverse. Works a treat on TVRs and Citroen BXs! (it was via TVRs that I picked up this trick - forums rather than ownership sadly!)

Doesn't really matter which gear, though first has a harder life, so I usually use a taller gear. I actually use fifth on the BX and if lucky enough to drive a TVR but the Nissans often have a detent to stop you going straight from fifth to reverse (my Bluebird certainly does).
