hi, just wondering is it just gear oil you put in the gearbox and transfer box on a terrano TD 2.7?

update from Nissan Auto transmission fluid for transfer box, Rick

isn't that the same as PSF? ATF is designed for hydraulic pressures i thought:nenau

yes just about, but oil is oil, atf takes much the same loads as any box oil the thing is in cold times the thicker GL oil will drive the front prop so causing 4 wheel when not wanted, that is why Nissan made the mod, and lets face it how often is the transfer box going to be used on the average motor, Rick

Aye fair enough, I never thought hydraulic designed oil could be used for a manual transmission. Interesting

I use the transfer a lot, basically because I offroad a lot and like keeping it active, I heard about them seizing on the 'school run' terranos.

ATF is not just hydraulic oil it is designed as a transmission oil as well, it at the end of the day the carries the same loads as any other box, Rick

Ain't the transfer box just duplex chain driven? So you are just lubricating a chain. Thin oil to stop drag in cold weather driving the front prop shaft and bring in the auto hubs as Mr Solar man said. Regards. Bri

Basically yes, and 3 big gears for low range
