How do I check the gearbox oil level? :)

Is it worth trying to find a haynes manual (did they make one?) for just the basic jobs on my terrano :nenau

crawl under motor and remove filler plug, oil should just trickle out, but if you decide to drain oil as well, make sure that the filler plug will loosen first, as they are known to seize, use the down loads for maintenance, dont think there is a Haynes manual available. :thumb2

brilliant, thanks i'll take a look later :thumb2

which side is the filler cap on?

Filler/level plug is on the left hand side of the earlier Terranos and on the right hand side of the later round headlight models onwards.
Transfer box oil level/filler plug is at the rear of the transfer box.

If its on the drivers side (TD WITH INTERCOOLER) you can refill with the bonnet open and a piece of tube and a funnel. regards bri

Brilliant, cheers guys. I will get some oil and give my terrano a nice fresh oil change :)

What oils will I need?

I wonder how much a garage would charge to change it?

Could be £100 os so in oil if ya doing everything

&

As said time n time again

Rear axle must be lsd oil

As for gearbox, transmition oil from any motor factors / Halfords. It only takes a few minutes, do it yourself or a friend in the know as a garage will rip ya arm off for an hrs labour from £50 up.!
