anyone know what size the bolts are that hold the gearstick in place they are gold ones, mines only got 3 8O

They are M8 bolts, I am not sure on the thread pitch but seeing as they are threaded in to cast ally I would think they should be 1.25. The length again, I am not sure on but I would think they are around 30mm.

Not a lot of help I know but you could always take one out and get one to match.

The usual reson for oil leak there is the rubber gaitor splits.

your best bet is go to main dealer for new bolts about a quid each, i had a mare trying to get bolts for my starter motor from a spare shop. at least you will get right length etc.

I got a box of M8/30 from halfords with washers for under £2.
I also got some liquid gasket to re seal it.
on removing the control housing I found the return spring had been
squashed between the gearbox and the control housing I did not have
a replacement so I used a hexwrench to realigned it and now it will go into
2nd gear when cold!!!!
still have not change the gearbox oil I cant get the filler plug out.
any ideas?

take the gearstick out only four bolts (tho i lost mine!!) and pour straight into the top a lot easier!!!

I think you are right leo23,it looks like it has been done before!!
hence missing bolt deformed spring and oil leak.but it is an option
and a lot easier than trying to remove the fill plug.I just hope I can remove the drain plug.
