Got in the truck this morning and was really difficult to get in gear. Eventually got it into reverse but couldn't get into first, so set off in 2nd. Had real difficulty selecting 3rd so turned around and put it back on drive. Is this a clutch problem or is the gearbox knackered? When the engine is turned off, it goes into the gears fine, nice and smooth but turn the engine on and it's nigh on impossible to get in. Was ok yesterday but it has been a bit clunky since I got it. Any help greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a clutch problem and the clutch plates is warn along with the thrust bearing at a guess.

What's the play like in the peddle when you let the clutch out, does it come out a long way before grabbing, might need adjusting.

we had that, new clutch cylinder was needed, so check that

Zippy

Pedal seems fine, no problems with that. Saturday night I reversed it off and back on the drive about 4 times so I could check the parking sensors. Could I have clagged something up by doing that? And if so, is it feasible that I could un-clag it by doing the same?

At the moment I can't get it into any gear. When I put it in reverse without engine on and turn engine on it feels like it's trying to bite even when clutch pedal is down. Is there a quick cheap fix for this as I can't afford to get a garage to look at it until I get paid next week. :(

Zippy, how much was it to have the clutch cylinder replaced?

was under garentee then :)

ok so i cant spell!

For a first off have you check the clutch fluid level?

May also be worth bleeding the clutch hydraulic system a bit.

Sounds like the clutch is dragging so unless its a warped plate it will be a release mechanisom issue so as has been suggested, slave or master cylinders etc.

Not sure if there is any adjustment in the system or not

When you press your clutch is there any free play in the pedal before you feel any pressure? If thats not ok then there is a problem on the hydrolicsbut if its ok then sounds like clutch or release bearing

Clutch feels normal and fluid level is up to max line. Have managed to get it driving tonight and while still very clunky, it's better than it was. Not sure if I trust it in a stop-start commute to work though. Been going in to work on public transport with the great unwashed for last 2 days

Definitely needs looking at but if I can hold out another week, my AA parts and labour cover kicks in, so if I'm cunning enough I can get the clutch or whatever repaired or replaced for 25 notes.. :D

Have a look at your clutch pedal linkages inside your vehicle behind the pedal, see if any thing is loose

Cheers for all the suggestions. Having managed to force it in a couple of times :)eek:) it now seems to be playing ball and has been since yesterday. I can only assume that something was sticking or something, so will get it looked at properly next week.
