Ok so my recon gearbox (94 maverick) has turned up today and I want to get the oil right I know there's probably been a lot of talk about this oil grade,I work for a motor factors so I ask for the grade i need (75-90w gl4) yes we sell it carlube 75-90w gl4/gl5 apparently it covers both gl4 and gl5,how does that work? Does anyone know if it's any good or is it best to steer clear?

I have just done mine and used Comma 75-90w GL4, I did see the GL4/5 but to be honest, I would rather use the oil that is dedicated GL4.
There's plenty on the forum about it:)

How many liters needed ?

When I did some research on this - same scenario - I bought a recon gearbox, I looked up this generic GL4/GL5 and it is really GL5 :eek:and what they are stating is that GL5 is backward compatible i.e it covers and exceeds the spec of GL4.

Of course we know that you must not use GL5 in these gearboxes.
