Hello all, just a quick hello from myself!

I'm currently driving a little Seat hatch, but looking at the future when the lease expires!
I wanted a defender when i first passed my test at 18, 5 years ago, but the insurance was horrendous, and still is! Plus the reliability/rust!

My mum has had a Patrol since 2004 from new and never had any problems, only one mot failure, the windscreen wipers!

Have been reading on here for a few days to get an idea of what the Terrano's are like and I'm set on a T2 with the 2.7Tdi, plan on running it on SVO!

Impressed with the wealth of information and friendliness of the club! I'll become a paying member when I acquire a T2! Happy reading for now!

Are there any members in the NW? I'm interested in joining a local club or going greenlaning with a few people! (I need lessons in off road driving first aswell!)

Go easy on me! :thumb2

Welcome to a great club, with good people who are very enthusiastic and helpful.
Ask lots of questions, but the tenner to join may prove to be a good forward investment, and show good faith........after your 80th question........:augie

I see your point! I'll upgrade in the next few days!

I left out what I do to earn beer tokens, I'm a Marine Engineer trainee officer in the merchant navy! Currently work out in SE Asia and Australia, but get flown out there to work every few months.

Pretty handy with a spanner so hoping to do all work myself, big or small! I can weld, to some degree, but don't trust my welding just yet...

I'll try and post some pics of the beasties i work with, if anyone is interested!

Welcome aboard:thumb2 pics are always welcome and if youve searched here youll see that we do post about none 4x4 topics.

Rust is still the enemy of these trucks too but have to say Id have another Terrano happily.

Howdy any welcome, luckily for some of us there is no question limit :lol

Otherwise mine would have expired long ago :augie

But yeah, everyone is really friendly here and lots of info to be had, when you pay up the membership you get access to the downloads section.

Once you have a good inspection of a terrano, and making sure you check underneath thoroughly!!!! (Really, I stress, thoroughly) poke n prod away!!

Get a happy one with no rust, get it home and spend 2 days cleaning and hameriting the underside of it, this will future proof your purchase and stop it becoming a land rover :lol

Most on the terrano is pretty easy to sort, or atleast the guys on here make easy work of it and most parts are cheap. As you may be aware the engine is run on a series of gears, no chain or belt to break :thumb2 that makes these engine pretty bullet proof.

Other thing to have a play on is gearboxes, terranos can be known for a few gearbox niggles, so check if it makes any strange noises when changing gear under load and check for a noise when pedal is pushed in (with engine running)

Apart from that, if it don't spew oil everywhere and it hasn't got holes through it, buy it :lol

Welcome to the best site for all things Terrano or Maverick.
We collectively know more than any nissan dealer, and we can fix things for very low cost.

I have had mine a long time...:augie
Best car I have ever owned, and the cheapest to run by far.:thumb2

We are all here to help..
usually within a few minutes of your post. :nenau
We have sorted things at 2:00 am in the morning, now try that with your local garage.:thumb2:thumb2

Welcome,
best regards,

Rustic

That's the main reason i'm looking at the 2.7, no belt/chain to go wrong and if its good enough for the hackneys, it's good enough for me! I work on big 700mm bore 2 stroke diesels running at 90rpm with no camshaft... awesome machines, but if they go wrong, they really go wrong!

I'm looking at an autobox as i'm admittedly a lazy driver! haha! My mums trol has never had any issues and pulls like a train still!

...I'm looking at an autobox...

It does reduce the towing capacity from 2800kg to around 2000 kg.
As with any auto box, best look at the colour of the oil, should be nice bright red, if brown... hmm... possibly over heated.

Hi Solarman, i know what you are thinking of, these opposed piston engines are of an older design to the modern uniflow single exhaust valve diesels of today. There aren't that many left!

To give you an idea of the scale of it,

I'll post up another thread of the stuff I work with!
Our main engine is a 6 cylinder jobbie producing 10,000HP.
If you thought SVO/WVO was thick, try heavy fuel oil, at room temp you could shovel it...
