saw it come on thought, I can get 10 miles, WRONG:doh:doh
Now even though I have filled to the brim the light comes on soon after stating.
Is there a reset or a fix?
I have now got a spare can of fuel in the mav.

So did you actually run out of fuel?

Sounds like you upset the float if there is one :nenau

Yes Alex, I ran the car up the nearside kerb with the starter to get out of the traffic, the light went out, engine started, managed to drive out of traffic then had to walk 1/2 mile to get can,
When I got back I tried the primer under the dash, no pressure at all so I guess fuel pipe not long enough to reach fuel in tank :lol.
1 mile & 4 litres later & lots of pumping with the primer and all was well BUT the light stayed on.
2 miles later and 71 litres at Tesco and light still on. Fuel guage now reads full
Any ideas out there, with other cars, all petrol the light seemed to work along with the guage, empty light on and E, my Mav:confused: light on and F

Whip the inspection plate off in the boot, unplug the plug carefully, start the engine, switch the engine off, plug back in, start engine again

I tried this on one in the scrapyard and it worked :lol

The light has it's own separate switch in the tank. If you look at Banshees thread where he shows the tank sender, you can clearly see it.

The light has 12volts to it, then the wire from the other side runs via a control module, then down the N/S of the car to the tank, where it earths via the switch in the tank.

On my car, I get about 30 to 40 miles between the light first coming on and the tank being empty (never ran out yet!). If it comes on, and then you stop the car just after it has come on, when you re-start the car, it can often take a couple of miles before it comes back on again, so it must auto reset normally.

I would initially try disconnecting the battery for a while, and then connecting it back up, to see if that cures it, then it is down Banshee's route, of removing the plate in the boot, and checking the wireing and switch function down there.

Thanks for the update on the light switch, I recently replaced rusty fuel pipe so I can get to it easy, just need to remove the false floor.
I will go via the battery route first
