Just wondering what sort of job it is to remove the fuel tank on a LWB terrano? Need to cheak for rust as there's a small amount around the hatch on the load area floor

just remember the tank guard is bolted on with the same bolts as the tank its self

Oooooooooohhhhhhhh!!!!!! I never thought about the tank guard!!!!!! That could be causing my rattle!!!!

If I recall, there is a cut out in the bash plate on the edges that means the tank is still bolted in when the bash plate is removed.

Make sure the tank is empty first.
I would think disconnect the fuel pipes at the top as well, don't know how the fuel filler is attached though:nenau:nenau

Any further advice on removing the diesel tank, had a look at mine yesterday and there is a slight weep on the top of the front seam. I need to scrape off all the flaking at the seam to check the damage. I can't access the area in situe .
It can't be much of a leak, as when I took off the filler cap, there was a whoosh sound a bit of pressure in there.
I degreased the area and washed it down on Friday night I will monitor how long it takes for any fuel to show.

How and where do you disconnect the fuel filler pipe and vent?

What other pipes are connected?

Out and return, accessible through the round panel in the boot, isn't there another one on the top too?

Any advice much appreciated.:thumbs

It's pretty easy Rustic , I did mine easily and that was with a full tank (don't ask).
In the wheel arch rear right is a plastic cover panel that hides the fuel filler bit of gubbins. The tank vent pipe goes up there too as does the filler neck drain. All those can be a bit iffy as the tin worm can have been busy up there for many years un noticed
In the back end undo the inspection plate in the boot floor and undo the flow and return lines and the 'leccy plug.
Underneath undo the bash plate then the tank, simples.
When I dropped mine I put a trolley jack under the tank to take the weight till the last bolt was out. mind your eyes, crap always fall down :lol

Thanks for the quick reply, I slackened all 6 fixing bolts on Saturday, and got the complementary face full of crap that comes loose, just as you look up. My wife thought i'd been sweeping a chimney.

My next attack will be the cover around the rear wheel arch, and a quick look at the plug and the pipes etc, then I need to wait till the tank is close to empty.

The trolley jack is a good idea.
I bought one of those beam adapters that goes across the jack which gives two pads, I might make a wood frame off this like a H section so the tank is fully supported.

Thanks again,

Be prepared for bad news once you start cleaning up the tank. I found more and more holes that had been quite happy when covered in road crap and underseal. Best try a chemical clean first. Then pressurise the tank with air and see where it comes out, squirt with fairy liquid solution and play bubbles for a while :lol

I will be taking the one off my off road TDi just as soon as I finish the internal tank, so depends how long you can wait, Rick

Cheers guys, I'll be removing the tank after the overland conversion:thumb2

Hi Guy's any chance of the odd photo or two please. I think my filler neck will need replacing one of these day's, daren't remove the tank for fear of bad news:nenau

Is there a difference between a 2.7 td and a 2.7 tdi tanks on the LWB version?
