I have a diesel leak coming from around the filler neck area.

I suspect I'll be needing Rick's services again with some parts.
Unless someone closer has what I need.

Are the filler necks prone to corrosion or could I be looking at the neck part of the tank itself (possibly both).

MOT's next month so I need to get it sorted for the 8th of Sept.

Check Banshee's thread. He had his out and it looked rough but when cleaned, all was good. :thumb2
Hang on..... that might had been his 3ltr:nenau

Filler necks rot for the fun of it, you'll be lucky to get one in good nick. When I needed one ricks were as bad as mine. CNCfabs might have a newer one on one of his motors. Mind you check ebay for a terrano being broken in berby. It's a dark grey 05 plate, last night he had a wing and an injector pump left on eBay. He has the remains of the truck on his drive.

Is it defo filler neck? Normally leak is from pipes going over the rear axle on drivers side.

Thank you all for your replies.

Jim..... I'll have a proper look underneath, but what makes me think it's the filler neck is that when I put fuel in it drips more so.

Could the neck be replaced with some silicone pipe or similar pipe that is fuel proof?

We fixed our filler neck with steel plate and some welding. I reckon some steel tube might do it but theres a breather on it. The next is steel and it joins to a rubber hose that in turn joins to the tank.

The one on my 2004 2.7 looked nasty but in fairness it cleaned up nice and just needed a paint wheras the one on the 3 litre was just that little bit too far gone and the 1 way valve pipe had totally rot into a hole. The one on the 2.7 just needed a bit of re routing and some rubber pipe to repair it

Thanks guys :thumb2

I thought it would be steel pipe all the way from filler neck to tank.

Looks like I'll have to start removing some bits & have a look see.

Be very very very very careful when removing the bolt from the bracket that attaches it to the tub as I've yet to remove one where the bolt hasn't sheared straight away and I've had to weld a nut on to wind the snapped thread back out which isn't easy :doh

Heat the hell out of it first with a butane lamp and then shock the bugger with some GT85 or WD40 etc and then wind it out slowly, try giving it the smallest of tightens first as weird as that sounds just to free things, it's a great trick uncle Rustic gave me which has reduced the amount of bolts I snap by 50% :bow

Ive got diesel leaking aswell, i assumed it was the 2 metal fuel pipes (about 4 inches visible) as they were soaking wet

Will have to check out the filler kneck as to get to the pipes id have to drop the tank

ahhhhh more info from zac.
am i right in thinking that the holed pipe is the one that fits to the little pipe i was asking about where it went.
large pipe fuel filler next to it smaller pipe the breather but pic not really clear as the holed pipe is behind other pipe.
i know you will tell me if i am wrong.
good picks keep them coming.

Chances are it'll be the fuel fedd and return metal pipes usually above rear axle. Different ways of attacking them. Some people replace a short length of each with rubber but it's better to replace the hole run with rubber fuel pipe. Banshee has the best idea, he replaces the two hole lengths with cunifer metal pipe.

There's stacks of threads on this subject and even have the correct diameter pipe. As a result mine ran smoother too so must have been sucking in air.

i did suspect the pipes at first as they were wet with diesel :doh

ill get under there on the weekend and have a nosey, looks like you need to drop the tank to get access to them :(

Nah, far easier than that.

Unscrew the tailgate kickstrip and lift the carpet at the drivers side. There's an inspection hatch held with 4 bolts. The bolts do tend to snap unfortunately so try the tighten slacken, tighten slacken technique to have the best chance of getting them out.
