So, my car has been getting a bit more lumpy over the past few weeks, first of all, I thought it was where I had overfilled the tank, but even though the tank is now only a 1/3rd full, it still hesitates and jolts a bit when sitting at a constant speed. It's all right pulling away, and on tick over, but trying to hold a constant speed, is when you notice it.
I decided to copy the clear fuel lines idea, as I had manually checked all the lines from the front to back, and they seemed fine.
So, this morning, I swapped the two filter pipes over to clear, and primed the system...
I won't spell out the whole fault finding procedure, as it was very long winded, and I went down several wrong paths, but basically, When I rev'ed the engine, I had air in the output pipe from the filter, but the input was fine.
The screw in, dog leg, output pipe had worked loose last time I changed the filter, so I tightened it up a bit. Today I noticed that when I pumped the primer with the engine running on tick over, a load of air went down the pipe. Eventually, I discovered that when I pump it, I tend to hook my fingers over the outlet pipe, and the air was happening when I lifted this slightly.
I took the dog leg out, cleaned it up, put some PTFE tape on it, and put it back in. When I went to re-prime the system, Diesel was pouring out of a split just above where the pipe screws in.
Looking at it, you can see it has been split for a while, but has now split more, since I put it all back together, so I guess that is where the air was coming in.
Luckily, the T1 fuel filter is the same, so I have swapped it all over, and now, no air when I rev the engine, or when I push the primer... Result...
Now I just need to find someone who has a Fuel filter mount for sale, to fix mine, and give the T1 back her bits.... would you believe, that while the filter, housing, and even the sensor/drain are identical, they have swapped the plug and socket over, so the Plug is on the filter side on one, and the socket is on the filter side on the other... It's the same plug and socket though... GRRRRRrrrr
