Hello,
I have a problem. I began to change the fuel filter on my petrol 2.4 today but ran in to some problems. I pulled the fuel pump fuse out and the car stalled to reduce the pressure but when I take out the fuel hose from the filter it just keeps on poring out gas making it rather nasty to proceed. Any ideas how to stop the fleed?

Often easier to do it when the tank is almost empty - probably a bit late for that though.

I have used a plug to put on the end of the hose then just carried on as quickly as possible fitting and connecting the replacement filter, other things I have done is to jack up the front of the vehicle when the filter is in the engine bay to reduce the natural pressure.

TBH this has been on other vehicles not a Terrano.

What happens if you remove the fuel filler cap to make sure tank isn’t pressurised.

I just clamped the fuel line either side of the filter when i changed mine:thumb2

On the 2.4 the filter is clamped to the chassis under the drivers door, best way to do it is remove the plate over the fuel tank and clamp the feed pipe or remove it, there are arrows on the tank unit to tell you which is feed and return, and as you say pull the fuse and de pressure the system, as the pump is in the tank, Rick

I never bothered with removing the line at the tank.
Front end up on the car ramps, two small G clamps on the rubber hose either side of the in line filter.
Undo the fuel hose clamps while holding a small tub to catch the fuel in the filter.
About a 20 mins job from start to finish

Thanks for the help! Thing is that I needed to change the fuel hoses to the filter aswell due to everything being sprayed down with rust protection making it impossible to get the hoses out from the filter (that seems to never have been changed) so I cut them off. But I did what you said Rick and it helped! Filter and hoses are now new. :thumb2
Will never change the filter again though with a full tank.

Does not matter if tank is full or nearly empty as fuel will still flow, unless you clamp it someplace or disconnect at the tank, Rick
