Hello again peeps,

I haven't written on here for some time (that's a good sign cos it means the car's been OK),
but now I have got some major wobble on the wheels and I have been told by a very kind gentleman in KwikFit that it's the wheel bearings (I did see the wheel wobbling so I know he wasn't lying)
What I need to know is, how easy is it to adjust the wheel bearings or change them maybe and what sort of cost am I looking at?
any help would be great

Hi Dirky i've just readjusted my front hub bearings & have got it down to about 6 mins a side now  All you need is a 6mm allen key to remove the auto hubs, a pozi driver, a pair of circlip pliers, hammer & punch.
Once you remove the auto hub, remove the circlip then remove the 2 screws from the locking washer. once this is done tap the multi hole hub nut around until the free play has done & then check that the locking washer lines up ok, if it don't tighten the nut a bit more untill in does, then refit everything. Well this is how I have done mine

I spent a lot longer on mine, I will follow this method as I have a slight bit of play in the off side wheel.
I did both sides a few years ago when I replaced the front discs.
I bought a 6mm allen "socket" so I could torque the bolts to the correct setting. On a previous service dealer over tightened them and sheared a head off one of the bolts.

Wheel Bearings

Hello peeps

I have spent 30 mins this morning tightening the nut on the wheel bearing, I have taken the car on a short journey to test and all seems well at 50 - 60 MPH, the only thing i did notice after tightening the bearings was that there was a lot of side play from the wheel, which seemed to be coming from the direction of the steering rack.
- Please someone tell me it's not the steering rack that needs changing (and be serious when you tell me  ) -banghead- :?:

Hi everyone,
Having passed the dreaded M.O.T the terrano now in it's 11th year with very little work ever over the years apart from brake pipes being the most common, but this year it was a couple of anti-rollbar bushes and everything was ok and with a couple of advisory items wheelbearing offside (slight play) and brake pads on both sides which incidently where last renewed 6 years ago and I bought 2 sets and fitted same.I read the post on here about tightening wheel bearing and with use of the CD,I stripped the automatic free-wheeling hub down removed circlip and posidrive screws and tightened wheelbearing and replaced brake ring, now I thought i would replace circlip (snapring) with a new one as advised on the CD, and rang the Nissan dealer and they told me their were 8 different thickness of snapring depending on the end float of the splined driveshaft at the price of £4.40 +vat each,so I put the original one back very quickly, looking at the CD I need to get DTI gauge to measure the end float of the driveshaft to detirmine which snapring I need.
has anyone who has tightened their wheelbearings thought about this ???

Hi, If you are adjusting your wheel bearings try the tool that fellow member TOOLMAKER produces, it's very good and you can torque load them correctly.

There is no steering rack on our 4x4s, instead drag link and Idler arm set up, I have just replaced my idler which has reduced wobble in the steering a great amount, I am in control once again.

Will play in the idler arm cause the steering wheel to shake at speeds of 50 - 60,

The reason for asking is I have adjusted the wheel bearings and had the wheels balanced, but it shakes terribly at those speeds.

Need info ASAP -banghead-

I have not got round to making a new batch yet. if demand is there i can knock up a few.

Searcing on fleabay there are none available, so I am still the one and only manufacturer of these tools. (for Mk1 Mk2 mavs & Terranos) -wor-

I'm interested, could you supply some details please?

I've always done bearings by the grease up, nip until wheel doesnt spin then back off 1/2 to 1/4 turn.

Well interested in anything that does it more scientifically.

Cheers
