front prop shaft

Hi all would anyone be able to tell me if a front prop shaft off a 96 terrano will fit my 04 ?? Both lwb as I was told the early T2's prop shaft didn't constantly turn as no fixed hubs and also have a grease nipple?

Yes. I fitted a used 1996 front prop with 3 grease nipples to my 2005. Just bolted up and now it turns all the time.

Mines the same.

Reason was had one of the uj's replaced but still had a noise and vibration coming in around 50mph. We found the sliding joint was worn, had about a mil or so movement but enough to cause me problems.

There are 2 lengths of front props, 645mm and 605mm.
The length depends on year, changed somewhere around 2002 ish
The size is closed length.

sounds as though the later is the longer as the shorter should extend the extra 40 mm without problem, point worth remembering, there is very little movement on this slider as it is only allowing for engine movement which lenght ways is limited, Rick

Now I am confused because a member on here used both front and rear from a 96 and fitted to a 2005 with no problems ?

Hi John - I did. What I think they're saying is that it might be the case that the prop from 2002 onwards won't fit earlier models as it won't slide down enough but the earlier shaft will extend to fit later models.

The later sliding shafts have a polymide coating to provide lubrication and final size. This appears to be the wear culprit, it is a brown semi transparent coating, with trade names such as Rilsan.
