I was under the truck the other day, removed panels, mud flaps etc to waxoyl for the winter and I noticed that inside the lower wishbones there was a lot of surface rust, so scrape as much out through the 2 holes at the bottom, ( one access to front drop link nut, other for access to bumper stop nut).
Finger in have a poke around :augie flakes falling out, so in with the waxoyl again.:bow
Now this is a real rust trap, water mud etc can get in, but the upturned edge of the access holes prevents any of the crud coming out.
There is plenty of metal there to start with, but I think this is a poor design.
Might be worth a poke around, you don't need to remove any covers to get to them, or even jack it up.:thumbs You can normally hose out the mud, but you need to do this often.
Prevention is better than cure, second hand parts will suffer from the same problem, so the only option may be new, and these are not as cheap as Fiesta wishbones...
MUD FLAPS:
Also worth hosing out the gaps between the front mud flaps and the inner plastic wheel arch cover. The mud collects at the bottom edge of the lower front wing, through the small gap, blocking the small drain slot. BUT doesn't access the sills so mud doesn't get in the sills from here anyway.
Better still remove the mud flap, inner plasic covers and the outer plastic wheel arches.
I often open both front doors and spray water into the open part of the lower front wing, you will be surprised how much comes out the bottom.
I HATE RUST
