Hi iwas wondering if anyone can tell me if the T2 is prone to bearing failure as mine has just cost £1600 to repair, luckly this was done under the warrenty.

Never heard of it - front diff is used on special versions of the impreza wrx sti as rear diff, the normal ones have R160s, ours use R180, also used in skyline gtr - this should give you some idea how strong and reliable it is.

Thanks Hunningbird. Just got it back to-day the garage has had it a week and a half, there comments were that the front diff was locking up and that they traced the fault, to be an internal fault with the front transfer box which they replaced as they said that they couldnt obtain the bearing seperately, any way will see how it goes off to Haggerston with it and the van this afternoon.

Front transfer box? Is there not only one transfer box?

I dont supose you have larger tyres than standard?

so it seems the transfer box was at fault and not the front diff? it is new to me also, i have never heard of issues with the front diff, or the transfer box come to that!

Have to agree with you Plank (well this time eh) the geabox bearings on the earlier trucks seem to be a bit weak but other than that the transmission in general is pretty bomb proof. Only failure I can think of is Tommo broke a front shaft at Kirton once, but by his own admission he was asking for it, spinning wheels bouncing up and down etc.

we cant have all this agreement! i take it back the diffs are rubbbish

Thanks for the replies everybody no problems with it on the run down to northumberland and back just a form of grinding noise coming from the front left when turning on full lock, will get it to my brothers garage to look at it hes a lot cheaper than the dealer.

Tell him to grease your lock stops - noise should go away.
