Has anyone else experienced the front anti roll bar bent such that new drop links will not fit, got one on no prob NS, but OS the downward bolt is 20 mm ABOVE the wishbone, lucky I got a scrapper to rob, Rick

its probably not bent just when youve took off the old drop links the wish bone has dropped .fit it to the wishbone loosely first then lower back on to the ground slowly to line up the top thread! with a bit of wiggling it should go in! tighten all back up then raise the front off the ground and see if the drop is near enough the same on both sides! if its lower on one side with the drop links attached then it is bent! hope this helps!

a bit unusual I'd say Rick, are you sure the torsion bars aren't asymmetrical and the vehicle is actually on a bit of a slant? They do tend to drop on one side or another as time goes on....

But then maybe if one has been run disconnected with all the strain on the other end, who knows what could happen? But its a hefty old bit of kit to have bent like that?

the reason I had to do the drop links was that the NS was completely gone no rubbers left at all, but I thought it odd that the top washer for the rubber was pushed right up to the ball joint, did not think any more of it, just assumed it had rusted but now I know that if I pulled the OS down to connect it the NS will be under too much strain and the same will happen, will post pics when I get them both off, but will have to wait for Swifty as too much for me at the mo, Rick

when I do them I disconnect the two main clamps that hold the ARB to the chassis, remove/replace the droplinks with it off the car, then just lodge the ARB back in place and bolt the links back into the wishbones....only then do I re-attach the two chassis clamps......makes it much easier to do.

But still puzzled by the apparent bend.....

I got MOT on the 4th, Rick

well worst case ypou could just remove the ARB completely, drive carefully to the station and hope he doesn't notice. they tend not to as a rule LOL

then sort it at your leisure....:thumb2

If it ain't there he can't test it. Got a good arb here if you need one.

Note quite:augie
If the part is "Absent" it's a fail.
Assuming your tester is a smart arse:eek:

I have had no arb on the front & rear of mine since i've owned it & gone through 2 MOTs no problem :thumbs

I just have to go slower round corners but its not exactly fast anyway
