hi i have just aquired a french t2 and dvla says i need to get a certificate from the french version off dvla does anyone know who they are or called or contact details for them

I dont but have you checked the vat has been paid if not you may need to pay it

Hi Ramboline, First thing you need to do is find out which department it was registered in.There will be ether a number and a logo in a blue panel at the right hand side of the plate if its the new style plate, or its the last two numbers on the old style plate . Check this number against a list of departments and you know were it was registered.You then have to right to the main prefecture in that department,(in French ) with proof of purchase and ask for a copy of the CART GRIS The French log book!
It would be much easier to track down the previews owner and see if they have it

thanks for the info the number on the plate is 36and i will be writing to another owner i have found and see if i can trace it with them but will also contact the french side as well to obtain a copy of the log book as i have spoken to dvla and they informed that there is no charge to register it here as long as i can can get some documentation and it has a mot too :thumb2

The French prefecture I think will want you to register it in your name before they will issue a cart gris, this will involve an application form and a fee, for T2 over 10 years old its about 240€ or about 200£:doh

Not sure how this all works,a friend of mine just bought a French registered car(still on French plates and Carte Grises not modified to new English garage owner).The old owner had already filled in the necessary French papers for change of ownership and that all sorted out ok.
I know that you are doing the inverse but I would think that a bill of sale showing you bought it in France and the French Carte Grises you should be able to get a suitable change of ownership/nationality(of car) from DVLA.
You may need to get the old owner to get a "Certificat de Cession D'un Vehicle" and "Demand de Certificat d"Immatriculation d'un Vehicle" and "Certificat de Situation Administrative Simple".
I think you'll only need the first form if any,but never having done the same procedure as yourself it's hard to say as French red tape is sometimes a minefield.I'm sure that the DVLA will be able to come up with the correct papers.

Forgot to say but cost of a new Carte Grises is rated by the HP or KW of the engine (CV on the French Carte Grises,my Patrol is 11CV):thumbs

That's right when I did mine the cost for the T2 was 480€ but because it is over 10 years old it is half price 240€ not cheap!

Certificate of Conformity / Type Approval Certificate ?

Not sure if this helps but if you have a French Registration document, copy of the import duty document, bill of sale then as its in the EEC I would have thought all you need then is a certificate of conformity (also known as type approval document) and complete the DVLA form V55/A.

The certificate of conformity can be obtained from the manufacturers and from some its free for Mercedes its about £100 and is obtained from the UK distributor at Milton Keynes.

Nissan UK should be able to supply this for a modest or no fee.

I never thought to ask but is it a uk right hand drive that was taken to France and brought back, or is it a French left hand drive, if it was a uk car then if you have the original uk rege Number then the dvla should have all the info so you should just need proof of ownership ?
Dont think this is relevant but if the car is after 2001 it should have a E at the end of the vin. this is the equivalent of a certificate of conformity for the EU
and according to Bustles they have to accept this, so no need to spend money on one from nissan or any other ! not a lot o people know that!

yes its left hand drive and spoke to dvla who told me because its ten years old or over all i have to make sure that i change the headlights and fit a rear fog and the speedo must read miles but as long as it has miles and klm thats fine and then all i need to do is get it mot but am writing to the owner who the guy i bought of to see if he can shed some light on log book or export certivicate so will keep you all updated i did buy it to break at first but is too tidy and clean to destroy it:thumb2
