FREE OS Map Data.

FREE OS Map Data From The Ordnance Survey!

Using the OpenData project from the Ordnance Survey you can download the entire UK for free. As far as I can tell there is no catch lol. You'll need a program like Memory Map or Fugawi to use the data tho.

The data is downloaded via an email link as a .zip file. the actual map tiles are in the geotiff format which is supported by most navigation software.
Be warned that there are around 1000 smaller tiles for each large tile set.

If you have version 5 of memory map you can actualy already download the map tiles for free using their digital map shop. I'm not sure about fugawi.

I have a sneaky feeling that you don't actualy have to buy memory map to use it either.

thats handy as traditionally those sw houses have charged
for mapping though discounted it the more you bought.

so now need to find a shareware prog tha can deal with it.

any idea what extension the unzipped map files have.

nope, just saw this post on another site.. so nicked it!

maybe the love glove will know. he is big on shareware for his visits to grot sites . and he dables with mapping too.
ill text him and get him to drop in .
he's in frog land right now. and i read on facebook he lost one of his dogs yesterday. so prob needs a chat anyway

I used to run fugawi then switched to mem map about 14months ago. As far as I recall you do need mem map to use this data especially if youre going for detail. Some of it has been available for a while.

Hopefully thats now changed :thumb2 I wonder how they'll make any money because the conditions of copyright on it will be almost unenforceable and when users have the choice of buy or free :nenau

Ive ordered some stuff from it to go to work tomorrow so I'll update how usable it is :thumb2 (just done some work using maps and was fair cracking along until someone pointed out a few copyright problems ooops , so if I can do it with this stuff :thumb2)

err good link zips seems need to log in,

whats your username and password lol.
