A quick question my brother is just getting a maverick petrol he wants to know if it has the same set up as the diesel regards the timing sprockets/cogs

No, petrol has timing chain and the adjuster falls apart and rattles

Diesel has gears, no maintanence

He needs to remove the rocker cover, and take a look inside, you can see both tensioners, the hydraulic one on the off side and the fixed one on the nearside, the early fixed ones were all plastic and broke up leaving the chain to flop so much it hits and wears the timing cover water way leading to disaster, the later ones have a steel backing with plastic front, the plastic breaks up very soon but is of no real consequence the steel backer is fine and will take a very long time to wear significantly, Rick

Mine is a 2000 so should be OK, but I better add it to the list of things to check.

I could really do with retiring early to get some free time. :lol
