I just thought I'd put up a few pics of my floor repair That's the worst side done. It'll be good to have an interior again.

and the big pic does look like a band aid spayed over:nenau

lucky for me my eyes are good, nice neat welding there and nice cutting on the plate, the `BAND AID` seems to be sound proofing type stuff

The band is a sound deadening pad, fitted with heat gun so it follows contours and doesn't crease, just as the final tidy up but as their black and stand out (and yeah i know carpets will be hiding it) i decided to rattle can it silver. and the welds brushed with seam sealer first just incase of any pinholes then plastered with crap from underneath

I am currently in the process of trying to learn to weld, and I would love to get to your standard at some point.

Could you tell me where you source your repair material from, and what thickness of sheet you use?

Regards

Alan

We get offcuts for a few quid from the black smiths :thumb2 If you don't have one handy motor factors should carry sheet steel. 1.2 is a happy thickness to work with, thicker than the truck but only just.

I used 20 gauge steel thickness I couldn't tell you but in the 1mm region, got it from euro car parts £6.50 for 2x3 ft

Great question I suppose I should have asked, but instead I asked what the options were and chose the biggest number they had as it sounded better

Gauge according to wiki is the thickness measurment based on lb per sq ft in thickness terms 20 gauge is .91 mm seems lower the number the thicker the metal

Good grief, no wonder britain is down the plug hole. I just need to know how thick it is surely and not guess that a bigger number gets you a smaller bit of metal :doh
Thanks for looking :thumbs
