Hi lads had to take the box out and fit new clutch the driven plate broke up.
The manual says to use a sealant on the gearbox face when refitting is this a nissan sealant or will any sealer do the job like the blue silicone stuff or hylomar.
The manual shows 2 sealants one for the top half and one for the bottom.

Cheers Bri

I didn't use anything on mine :thumb2 it was the original clutch and as far as i can remember there was no sealer there. A tip: Beware the box is very heavy indeed!

Cheers lads i cant see any reason for the seal but i'll use the blue silicone I use for work so got plenty
And yes your right Plank the box is heavy lol

there is a little bush thingy (spigot bearing?) only costs a couple of quid from milner off road that is best to replace at the same time. I did start a thread on my experiences of clutch changing it might be worth a search :thumb2

If it says use sealant there's obviously a need for it, either to keep dirt out or fluid in. Can't make anything out from the manual, other than both kinds of sealant are FIP (form in place) / instant gasket. Use something oil and heat resistant and you should be ok.

I wouldnt bother with the sealer unless you are driving through deep water it just keeps clutch from getting wet but what it does do is make it harder next time you want to seperate engine and box

Agreed, and to be honest there are other holes the water can get in, but if it's sealed at the bottom no where for it to get out, or if a seal goes it will just fill the bell housing unless it has a drain and you wont know until it's too late

my clutch experience

well my experience of the sealer, it caused my clutch problem rick and swifty fitted a new clutch for me they took the engine out i agree the sealer is there to stop water getting in but it didnt water clearly got in at some stage proberly when the previous owner use to launch and recover his boat.

the trapped water rusted the spigot bearing and coverd everything in a coating of rust hence the very stiff clutch. rick didnt reseal the housing when he refitted the engine.
