Fiesta problem

My sister has a 6 year old ,2 lt sh*t off a stick, Ford Fiesta that she has had from new. She has had loads of problems with it ,the latest being both front springs snapped and bent the suspension arms :doh. this cost £400 to fix.
Now there is an electrical problem. When she puts her foot on the breaks The instrument panel lights come on,like she has switched the side lights on, then they go off when she takes her foot off ?
There was a blown brake light bulb so she had this replaced by a friend at work but the problem persists Any ideas ?

Brake light bulb is shorting... Probably a single contact bulb.. should be two contact points and twin filament. Note bulb should only fit one way due to off set pins.

When the brakes are on, power is fed to one filiament in the Stop Tail bulb, but if the two contacts are linked, as soon as the brakes are on, power will be fed to the rear side light, which will then back feed into the side light circuit, which brings up the panel lights.

So take a look at the rear light cluster, Wrong bulb type...
could also be a poor earth there too.

I don't think it will necessarily be as simple as this. If it's anything like the new jags the electrics are bonkers.. One thing faulty can throw faults in the weirdest of places.

Have you spoken to the main dealer on phone to find out if this is a known fault?

I'm not im thorough support of the main dealers but at the same time, sometimes there is a 5 min fix that joe blogs can take 5 hours to find :thumb2

Also a fault with the auto lights springs to mind, they can be linked to the brake pedal, along with start stop n all sorts :doh
