Faulty Terrano II

Hi all

1st post on this particular forum so hope someone can give me some answers!

I have a 98 Terrano II 2.7TDi auto which is the first turbo car I've owned.

Here are the questions:

1) When I put my foot down the turbo kicks in with a really loud hissing sound and continues until it shuts off. Is this normal?

2) Temp gauge hardly moves unless I'm towing my caravan, but even then it doesn't get into the "normal" range.When I'm not towing it sometimes doesn't moved from the cold position.

3) The heater blower used to work on all 4 settings but for some reason it now only works on the highest.

I'm sure there are people on here who can answer these questions, and all answers will be gratefully received.

Hi Andy.

Heater blower speed's, check out the downloads section as there is a workshop on repairing the resistor pack. This can be found via the quick links at the right hand side of the yellow bar at the top of the screen.

Engine Temp, it's normal. Have a read through a current thread regarding the heater.

Turbo whistle, you can hear mine but not that loud, when the front pipe was blowing the turbo could be heard quite loud so check your front pipe.

eyup andy, no need to buy a new heater speed thingy just repair your old one with a blob or two of solder:thumbs

hi andyk, repaired my heater resister pack about a month ago, took about 20 minutes to complete, and works perfect, my temp gauge never moved when i first bought vehicle a change of thermostat made a varst difference to truck, just as jim t suggested check your turbo pipe, good luck and let us know how you get on. :thumb2

I can use a soldering iron, just usually solder my fingers together but hey, that's part of the fun isn't it!

Just checked there isn't a workshop on repairing the resistor pack, must be a posting about it. Basically once removed you can usually see where the track on the flat surface is corroded. Clean thoroughly with wire wool until you have shiney copper and then heat with the soldering iron and then touch the solder on and watch for the solder actaully flowing not blobbing.

Do I need to feed her?

Can she do any other jobs?
-- I've got a loose thingummyjig on the exhaust and it's rattling and ringing like hell.

Do you deliver or do I have to collect or pay for transport costs?

Does she supply her own overalls and tools?

yes only the best food, as thats what she has here ( not)

thingummyjig i had that.. needed to undo all fitting and move it about a little. stoped then

colection only. or i can stick a stamp on her head and post her.
shes no over all or tools but with £300 a day payed before hand she can get some.

you got the chrome mirriors as well??

ive got the chrome wheel cover and side steps, just need an A frame oh and some more lights..

Your rattle on the exhaust is prob the front pipe surport braket as the exhaust clamps are very common for working loose:augietighten them up & fit a second set of nuts to stop it working free again:thumbs

Mind you, I could only afford a shiny sixpence a day plus a jam sarnie and a glass of water (cold, mind). A pair of my old overalls would have to be cut down for her.
Anyway, I was going to suggest you set her off walking and I'll meet her in a couple of weeks. (By then I wouldn't have far to travel, thus saving diesel).
She could also have had the use of my brand spanking new B&D Power Wrench wot I got for Xmas. Great tool, I could sit and press the button for ages, and watch the jaws closing and opening.
