My rear lights become faulty every year with water getting at the wireing and creating a bad earth. How easy/hard would it be to convert the upper lights to be tail lights instead and do away with bumper lights?. I know the imports were like this from factory? Any help greatly appreciated as this is becoming very frustrating let alone dangerous.:bow

Dead easy mate :D I converted my upper lights to the AUS spec so they're all ind, stop/tail, reverse. £34 per light fitting I think it was. Then just oik out the old lower loom and wire in the new ones to them. The lower loom can be fed up from the lower position via the existing grommets too :thumb2

Here you go :D

Just need to fit the fog light now :augie
OR you could leave that below

Cheers. I will deffo be changing mine now. Think ill check on evilbay for some new units:thumb2:bow

why are they in the bumper? look crap and well.. just a stupid place. Terrano's the same.

i agree they are exposed to the elements, i think its a uk spec issue

tail and indicators moved to bumper as there were concerns of sighting issues due to
rear mounted spares. presume either when viewing rear from an angle or because tailgate
was open during loading. though last doesnt really make sense as vans only have up in body
and they load....

many disco owners retro'ed the upper lights, so not uncommon to see them with 2 indicators
either side. also odd defenders kept theirs high up despite rear wheel, there is no sense to it.

I have often thought a bout a set of repeaters higher up along roof line or in rear glass as
per high level brake light.

I don't think you can have too many lights, as long as they are of the approved type.

Just look and you will see some HGV's decorated like Christmas trees.

Sorry mate I didn't see ya... :augie

I guess if you have two rear side lights, and one bulb goes, you are unlikely to be pulled over.
I fitted an extra bulb to the brake light lenses as an additional side light.:thumb2

I think motorcyclists should have more lights, especially visible from the side.:nenau They should have LED daytime lights too, when I had a bike I always rode on dipped headlights.

Be seen, be safe..

makes no sense at all, new discos are all high up, none in the bumper. I'll look into it one day, it winds me up every time I look. Tailight mod and indicators higher up would calm me down, but them Landie ones look crap. no offence makeitfit, they serve a fine purpose.

Spinna, not sure how it works on the Y60 so please forgive me if I give you duff info.

On the Y61 the wiring loom to the tail lights runs inside untill the passenger seat, then runs via a grommet to the outside of the chassisbeam. Here they installed a connectorbox and from there it runs to the tail lights.

If you install the light in the body then it might be worthwhile taking the wringloom apart before it runs it leaves the inside. You can then run some wires to the body tail lights and you will never have any water ingress into your wires again. It is a similar problem on the Y61, hence why I replaced almost every wire.
