My old bus is so noisy due to the fan and I'm sure I could get better mileage too if I removed it.

I know that some on here have removed their cooling fan. Other have replaced them with electronic fans.

First I thought I would remove every other blade, but is has 7 :clap so this would unbalance it.
i have toyed with cutting of about half of each blade or removing it altogether.

I know that in winter overheating should not be a problem, but in summer we travel across France, 40c is not uncommon and probably too much for no fan.

Any suggestions?

don't cut the fan, it'll un balance it, ide fit electric fans and remove the viscous, mines running the viscous and twin electric fans

your fan should only be noisy for a few minutes after starting if it is still noisy after it is hot then the viscous unit need replacing, Rick

yeah, the fan needs to catch up to the engine speed

I once changed a water pump on my first TD and the difference it made to the fan cutting in and out was astounding! The viscus must have been knackered! The pump is around £50-60 and less than an hour to change. Cheaper than fitting alternative fans :thumb2
