OK first mistake may well be taking it to Kwik Fit but I'm short of time and not able to take time off work. So on top of a hell of a lot of stress that I'm already going through this has added even more so I'm not doing too well.

1. OS (Near centre body mounting) Body has excessive corrosion. If this is the centre body mounting then it's just been done a couple of weeks ago.

2. NS rear (near rear most body mounting) body excessive corrosion.

3. Brake load sensing valve seized.

4. OSF drop link play in ball joint.

5 & 6 Both antiroll bar bushes (D Bush)

7. Front brake application uneven.

The later problems shouldn't be too bad, may be 7 could be a pig. So not a happy bunny and I do have to say I'm not convinced that they knew what they were doing as far as the body mounts are concerned.

I would be taking it to another MOT station, I understand your time problems but I think it is worth the effort, Rick

Sorry to hear of your failure.
Item 7 front brakes could be down to either, front caliper pins siezed, so might just need removing, cleaning and regreasing.

Or it might be a siezed caliper piston, or contaminaltion on the pads.
Inspection, and investigation is the only way.

Corrosion issues are down to the individual, how they interpret the regs, but they may have felt that can only get worse within the year. True an altenative inspector may have given an alternative diagnosis, or found more?

Some of the other items could have been missed by alternative inspectors, but if parts need replacing, best to know now. The drop link yes, needs replacing, as for the ARB bushes... again some could have a different opinion. :nenau

The load sensing valve siezed... I bet a lot more are too, often missed I guess.
I think your inspector at KwikFit has done a thorough job, one to use pre purchase...:augie

I would have thought that KwikFit would be inclined to find faults with Brakes, Tyres and exhausts, especially on any border line cases, but it appears that the brake faults found should have been picked up by any MOT inspector.

Still very stressful, but the positive thing is that everything else is fine:thumb2:thumb2

Very best regards,
Rustic

JIm, you made a huge mistake, sorry I know that snot what you want to hear and it doesn't help BUT you now have to take it else where because im 99% convinced they are doing you over.

Take it to my friend in Bradford, I can give you his number.

In an ideal world you are of course Right Clivvy but alas time is something I just don't have much of.

I've crawled underneath and really cant fault the os centre body mounting area at all. However the nsr behind the bumper, I guess its like an outer sill is badly holed. The rear bumper will have to come off to get at it.

What I really cannot understand is the rear exhaust hanger is snapped and its just an advisory:nenau

The osf drop link I can feel movement on but to me its not the ball joint but the bolt on the ball joint where it goes through the roll bar. Probably make a call to milners tomorrow.

A'men on that. Feck quick fit, some spotty kid who don't give a s***

Take it somewhere else :thumb2

The three MOT testers at our local branch are far from spotty kids, seem to be in their mid to late forties.

Go in their waiting area, and look around the area, there you will see a photo of the technician(s) on a copy of his/their certificate to MOT vehicles to class 4

I'm just being stereotypical, I'd still take it else where, get the mot done, and then do little b us of tlc to it

wot a bummer jim , but everything is fixable I think :thumb2

Theres light at the end of the tunnel!

Got the car back to Barnsley for the welding, hes doing the basically bottom of rear wing behind rear bumper on the ns and also the centre body mount on the os. Hes having to do the body mount from above so pulled carpet back and cut out the rot from above. All that for £70.
Clivvy has come up trumps with the load sensor, got the other bits too and booked in at a local garage on Monday.
Much as I hate typing their name, I have until next Friday to book in for retest for free. So fingers crossed she will be back on the road by next Wednesday teatime:clap:clap

I hope all goes well Jim.

I guess when you add up all the cost to get it through the MOT, then it's not that bad really.:nenau

It's just the stress, uncertainty and inconvenience that is the biggest pain.

I just fitted a new front exhaust, a month after the MOT, now this is a wear and tear item, but had it been picked up on the MOT, should I include the cost as part of getting it through the MOT.. Probably not.
Same with brakes, tyres, ball joints, ARB links, all wear and tear... items that I do as I go along.

Had I not done these prior to the MOT it would have failed on all of those over the years, but instead the cost is spread over the years and not just at MOT time.

My Dad used to do all the work a few days before the MOT, which was in the winter...:doh and he stressed him self out as it needed a lot. (K reg Discovery... :doh).

When I saw him working like that, I decided to do the jobs as I went along.
To be honest, I would have done the MOT early, say May or June, if my MOT was due in the winter, just so I could be comfortable working on it. Warm, greater chance of being drier, and longer daylight hours.:thumb

Funny you should mention bringing mot forward, thats exactly what im doing with the 05 plate in August.
I have two problems with working on the car, Ive lost confidence working on the cars. Secondly I simply have no time, Im too busy doing some voluntary work 3 evenings a week and most weekends.
Had a bad time with one or two things lately and it all adds up so this has been a stress no doubt. Thought having the sills done and a couple of other bits it wouldnt neeed much else. Silly thing is the tester missed a brake light out :doh

jim he better give me a good discount when i need so welding doing with all the work you've given him :doh:lol:lol:lol

Apparently since me n you started going there hes had loads of terranos :lol i told its cos we have posted about him :lol good find anyway Ian.
