hi well the maverick failed the mot today. hills ford wanted £620 notes to do the job:eek: so took the car to a body shop down the road they wanted not much shy of a grand to do the job. I have no problem using a welder done the job for a few years. so gonna get one again. reasons for failure

001 nearside registration plate lamp not working

002 nearside headlamp aim too far right

003 offside front body or chassis has excessive corrosion seriously affecting its strength within 30cms off body mountings

004 nearside front (inner sill) body or chassis has excessive corrosion seriously affecting its strength within 30cms off body mountings

005 offside front (inner sill) body or chassis has excessive corrosion seriously affecting its strength within 30cms of body mountings

006 nearside (center to rear inner sill) body or chassis has excessive corrosion seriously affecting strength within 30cms of body mountains

007 nearside front (inner sill area) seatbelt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded

008 offside rear (inner arch area) seatbelt area is excessively corroded

advisory

offside and nearside constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated, but preventing ingress of dirt

front area exhaust has a minor leak

offside and nearside suspension has slight play in lower balljoint

nearside front wheel bearing has slight play

both rear outer sills corroded badly outside prescribed area

got a bit to go at there

Hi darryl, Depending if you can do without the terrano for a few weeks, why not have a go
better still if you have somewhere under cover, rear seatbelt fixing points can be done inside cab as well as wheelarch and sills are also doable i'm not sure about chassis rot though some of the members here would have done those jobs i'm sure. tools for the job 125mm grinder/cutting discs, and arc or mig welder and assortment of hammers

hi I have no problem with the welding side of things more the fabrication side of things what size plates should be used to weld back in and so forth

Try and use the same thickness of plates, use cardboard for the patterns much easy to bend and cut. then transfer to metal sheet, or use clear plastic sheet paper and marker pen. can not recall the name of it.
clean well back to good then weld and chase weld and chase:lol
Laurie.

I am no expert, I don't have a clue, but should the pieces be butt welded edge to edge, or overlap and weld around the edge of the patch piece?

I don't think it matters which one. but with a butt weld you can grind back to get a flatter finish
