ok , so ive plugged my external hard drive in , nuffing much happened apart from a green flashing light on it ... so i tried to transfer some music files ( lots of them  ) .... over 25gb of them ..... my question is , have i duplicated them ? and how do i know ?

oh its a 1 tb thingie

go to mycomputer and click external hard drive and see if there on there then go to were there were before and if so you duplicated them

if you mean duplicated them in media player, then no. but, let me ask this, if you are copying music to the external hard drive, will that become the main storage area for your music? If so, you will have to set media player to include your music folder on the external drive as a monitored folder, and unless you then delete the music from your laptop folder, it will duplicate.

my plan is to store all my music files on the external hard drive , then delete all the ones taking up all the room on my lappy , then whenever i download a new album or whatever , it goes straight to the external , and media player just scans that for files

yep, that'll work mate, you'll just have to remove the folder locations in media player once you have cleared your laptop, and add the new folder location from your external harddrive. The initial copy process will be a bit slow, but once you have done that, subsequent saves when downloading should be ok.

When you've moved them all. Do your lappy a favour and defrag the fixed drive it'll run a bit better. David
