Exhaust Flexi Blowing

I've had a noise that's been getting progressively louder the past few days and I think it's coming from the exhaust flexi

Can the flexi be replaced on it's own or is it a case of changing the entire front pipe, if so have I read somewhere that you need to be a contortionist to be able to replace these?

local parts suppliers can supply a new flexi not dear but must get correct pipe diameter some can be clamp on but most welded, Rick

i fitted a complete new exhaust recently had no problem fitting the front pipe bit of wriggling and it went up and under no problem didnt even put it on the ramps or remove anything else like the front prop like others have done

I had to do my front pipe the other week, I looked into doing just the flexy, but one end is right where the gearbox cross member is, so you will need to remove it either way, and when I looked into the flexy, compared to the whole front exhaust, there was only £15 in it.

I then looked at the hassle of trying to cut the flexy out in situ, coupled with trying to make sure I got the right size replacement, and also how close it is to the bend, and decided it was a no brainer, and went for the whole thing.

Personally, I have always been told to keep the bending of the flexy joint to a minimum, so found it a lot easier to drop the gearbox support, and the front, of the front prop shaft, which gave me plenty of room to put the exhaust in with out bending the flexy, even though it was only up on axle stands.

Took about 2 hours in total, and that was taking it easy, and not rushing it, plus stopping for a couple of cups of tea, and a bacon sandwich....

Not a bad job but spray plenty of lube on your manifold nuts cos if you shear a stud like i did its a binde to take the manifold elbow off to re tap it

All good advice, really not worth trying to fix it just buy a new complete down pipe as said be careful when undoing the top three nuts! :thumbs

I think I'm going to go for the full pipe rather than welding in or clamping a new flexi.

I've got a good set of ramps, so I'll drive it up on them tonight and see whats going on under there and give the bolts a bit of a blast of GT85 to get things loose

So is it the general consensus that the pipe can be re-attached without having to remove anything else? Or is it a must that the gearbox support and front prop are removed

Mine went on without removing owt just went down hill when i sheared two studs got my back piece to do tomorrow
