I own a very nice 3.0TD 2001 - very well cared for.
Starts easily from cold and runs very smoothly - as soon as the engine gets warm idling at junctions & traffic lights can be exceptionally erratic and very lumpy (like missing on a petrol engine) - a flick of the 'warm' switch or a tap on the accelerator usually solves the immediate condition.
However restarting when warm/hot - the engine is very lumpy with rattling like pinking (Others have suggested this is merely the engine mounts reacting to the very lumpy startup (scares me sh.........ess).) until 'full' firing engine running is achieved then she runs smooth until junctions etc as mentioned above.. Have had two different diagnostic checks that show nothing.
Have removed the EGR valve - cleaned and refitted - still the same !
Have had the suggestion it may be the idler valve ??
Any suggestions - help would be appreciated
