engine under tray bolts snapped

no surprises, I snapped two of the four bolts holding my engine under tray!!

I can get the old bolts out, though I was wondering if the solution is to re drill new holes through the tray/chassis?

anyone had to do this before and does anyone have a solution? I was considering metal cable ties but I'm not so sure!

If you can get the old ones out without damaging the threads, great, then run an M6 tap through it, to clean it up. then, I fitted M6 hexagon headed Stainless steel bolts with penny washers, as the threads on my original bolts had started to wear a bit thin.
I also coated the threads with waxoyl before insertion, and brushed some on any exposed threads I could get to.

If you have to redrill the holes, I think that the ones across the cross beam are nutserts, but on a couple of those you could get to a nut on the other side.
Or you could fit helicoils, which could be better and stronger than the original, and they are also stainless steel.:thumb2

If so grind the stump flat. Center punch them, then drill out with a SHARP drill. Hi load, low speed.
If you get a drill bit a little smaller than the bolt, you stand a very good chance of being able to pit a new bolt back up the same hole. If you miss center then you'll probably need to re-thread it . Easy enough :thumbs
In the short term a man size zip tie or three should keep it on there till you're ready to bin it :lol er I mean, fix it

You could have a go at welding a nut to the remaining thread. I thought a few bolt threads inside would never come out but this did work. The heat helps alot.

I had a similar problem with mine (it had 5 M6 bolts (I think) and three of them sheared. I took the bash plate off, soaked the protruding bits with Plus Gas, left them for a couple of days, soaked them again then tackled them with a Mole wrench - all of them came out. I then did the same as Rustic, dome/socket head stainless bolts with stainless penny washers - sorted!

I cant get the bolts out without either drilling or swearing at them. I think it might be best I try drill them out and if lucky remove the remaining bolt or re-thread them using the thread inserts I bought recently - a bit bigger but shouldn't matter?!

well, for now its off but I want to get it back on - ive gone over plenty of crap in the road before and heard it clunk my undertray so id rather be safe than sorry!

What's the worst you're going to do........ bend your ARB thats it

yeah,or a rock or branch could get up into the belts and cause havoc. Personally, I don't want to bend my arb if having the tray on will prevent it!!

well, I have some m8 thread inserts so could use them, not sure if I have the bolts but easy enough to get, I figured id try using my m8's, just means I have to drill out the existing holes in the tray to accommodate
