Well folks as my poor old abused work T2 is getting rattly and performance has dropped off alarmingly, and fuel consumption is abysmal, I thought that out of the three spare engines I have I could make one good one, 1st one had the bottom end gone, second had overheated and done bores/pistons and head, third has good bottom pistons and bores but poor head, so they are all in bits ready for selective assembly, this is the good bottom/block/pistons, Rick

This head is good, the other two are either warped or stripped threads, threads can be repaired but chose the least work option

All inlets held up with thinner in the ports, no leakage whatsoever, but the exhausts let by, so had them all out and lapped them in, inlets lightly exhausts took a bit more work

Ready to fit to the bock, but all stop now as have not got serviceable timing chain tensioner, can get far cheaper from States for the 240 but postage kills it, looking at making my own as the bits in the sump of the later modified tensioner have little signs of wear, indicating the plastic crap broke up early after fitment, I have some "paxolin" that should do the job but it is the wrong shape at the mo, time will tell, Rick

2 inlet valves and 1 exhaust, interesting :)

yes in the states they uprate these to lots more BHP and the bottom end is well able to take it as it is well over rated, but the T2 version suffers the filter drain back issue so every time you start the engine runs dry bearings for a few secs, which takes its toll, only other issue is timing chain tensioner plastic crap, Rick

Why not turbo it while your at it ? :D

would love to but am not of the same calibre as makeitfit :bow, as on the petrol you would have to play with the ECU, in fact you would need some device to feed info to the ECU what pressure the turbo is running at, well at least I think that would be needed as I cannot see the maf coping with a turbo, but I could be wrong, trouble is with a petrol an over weak mixture burns holes in pistons, Rick

Stand alone Managment, many options available but megasquirt is a DIY community based system that can be up and running for under £100

Rick, I wish I had your bottle to do jobs like that on the motor.

in the 70s I ran a commercial vehicle workshop, 12 litre naturally aspirated engines and 7 to 9 litre turbo jobbies, turned my first taper on a lathe at 4 years old (stood on a box) it is just in the blood mate, played with radios and tv's till my sight started getting bad, cant see the effin chips any more although repaired a diathermy machine recently, bridge rectifier was shorted this machine seals blood vessels when vets operating, so still play, but getting slow now, Rick

nice idea but I want to keep things simple these days, my mega squirt days are long gone, Rick

Molyslip 2000e for engines is supposed to help this, as it protects the moving parts when there is no oil.

Well it's what it says in the tin, well the plastic bottle anyway.

I use it as a precaution.

I see you shop at Aldi for your thinners, I have a tin of that stuff too. Really good stuff.
Quite potent in confined spaces though
Good luck with the rebuild.:thumbs

Best regards,

Rustic

Hi Rick.

I am really pleased you have decided to create a new engine. I love my 2.4 litre, just can't get the time to prepare it for and drive it offroad.

It's nice to see inside one.

We have done one P&P day. Couldn't believe the economy... Half a tank of fuel at start, drove from 10:00 until 16:00 with just two brief stops for food etc, and we finished event with just under a quarter of a tank!

Treated it to new Distributor cap, rotor & plug leads as it was sluggish for last two thousand revs. Now pulls cleanly to red line.

I have new drive belts, air filter and a fuel filter to fit as soon as I can.

Hopefully we will be able to schedule some "Off-road" time in new year.

Petrol rocks... :clap
