A friend of mine gave me 2 cans of oil and a filter a while ago that he had in his garage from when he had a Maverick.
The oil filter had water ingress into packaging and the oil is fully synthetic. Do you think the oil will be ok or should I get something better. It’s for the 2.7 by the way.

I hope you're joking Jim  :nenau

You want 10w 40 Mineral mate, you know the rules, why would you even risk the prospect of engine failure due to water tainted oil when it's so cheap and wrong grade anyway :nenau

It should go without saying buy swap the filter too, don't wash it out or nowt :lol

I was just checking that this wasn’t suitable mate. The oil filter was binned yesterday and a replacement bought today.

If the plastic container is intact I can see no issue with using the oil. As regards mineral versus synthetic this has been a much discussed topic. I see no issue with using synthetic oil for a vehicle made when mineral oils were the norm.

Using a 5W in the winter would be fine in my opinion. I ran our 2.7 r3mR on Synthetic & semi-synthetic oil all the time mostly on the one CostCo sold Chevron 10W/40.

It’s of no consequence now as I went out and bought some mineral oil first thing this morning. A friend gave me a plastic box with 2 cans of oil and a oil filter and fuel filter. Obviously he had no idea that water had contaminated the filters and as Ted says it is unlikely the oil was contaminated. My mistake I thought the oil was semi synthetic until yesterday. Both filters were binned didn’t attempt to use them and the oil will probably go on Freecycle or something.

It was a friend thinking he was doing me a good turn but unfortunately it didn’t.

The truck is back on the road running sweet.

I bought a load of the Costco semi synthetic when they were selling it cheap, just after I got the T2, but before joining here... I know I already had oil burning issues, but the problems were greatly improved when I changed it for 10/40 mineral, and even better still once I switched to 15/40....

I have been using the Costco semi stuff up in the lawn mower, generator, and in the oil can for general lubrication, like on the lathe etc. I am down to the last container now, after 6 years... :lol
