10W40 or 15W40 is what I use in my Mav.:thumb2

Either Semi Synthetic, or Mineral... NEVER full synthetic...:thumb2

I put 10w40 semi in mine but used to put mineral oil of same grade in my last T2 as it was cheaper:lol been a big debate on here of late over grade of oil some saying the later models should have 5w30:augie tbh I can't seen the neee for a thinner oil as the engines are all the same unless Nissan wanted the bomb proof 2.7's to wear faster etc to make the cr#p 2.5 lump in the navara look a bit better:thumbs

The 2.7 lump has been around for well over 20 years in the Terrano then in the earlier RM3 and has been a standard engine for many years before that, and has been used as is, for the older London Taxis for many more years, engines clocking up over 300,000 miles without a spanner going on it.

You would think that taking the standard engine, then putting an intercooler on it, getting an extra 25% of power out of it, would put a strain on it...:augie

No proof of that as such, some of these trucks are close to 200,000 miles and counting:thumb2

Tough engine, but like all mechanical things, maintenance is essential, and since the only thing you can do on these engines is change the oil, then quality of the oil and frequency play a very important role in the longevity of these engines.

They were designed from first principles and many years of experience, at a time when cost cutting wasn't an issue.:thumb2

Later engines are designed to be manufactured as cheap as possible, with them often accepting the lowest bids for parts.
Computers are used so that the parts can "just" take the strain and maybe go for 100,000 miles or seven years to match some warranties.

Yes there will be a few that fall short of that, and first blame will be put on the owner, but occasionally the manufacturer will do a few repairs free of charge, to keep their reputation, the cost of this is very small in the overall scheme of things, when you look at cost savings from the beginning, and also the vast number of cars that they build.

The Navara engine was used at the time of the Renault involvement, :doh possible cost cutting... a bit close to the knuckle, one simple machining process, an oilway, was left out as far as I believe, and suddenly the Navara was breaking engines at around 50,000 -80,000 miles:doh

Cost cutting that went across the Nissan range, even the Terrano, lets remove the grease nipples on the front prop shaft, lets get rid of those expensive auto hubs, lets skimp on the underbody protection, after all we don't want people like Rustic to think that keeping a Terrano for over 19 years is the norm do we...:augie:lol:lol
Let's smarten it up a bit, make the rear window appear level across, but don't change the glass or rear door panel, :augie but put a cheap Plastic panel to hide it...

I was running 10w 40 and it was smooth as you like, did a full drain and filter change and refilled with 15w 40 semi and now it taps like a 1.3 Endura :doh

Stick with 10w 40 Mineral

Thanks for that... I knew the cause was oil starvation to the big ends but hadn't realised why, I thought an oil way wasn't big enough.

So air getting in...:doh

Looks like a relatively cheap fix if caught early, SO !! Why aren't Nissan doing a recall of ALL affected vehicles.:nenau
